    Crète 2013

In which country, in which district?
    It was at the seaside
    I've forgotten that, since then
    Exactly under the sun
Not next to, not anywhere else
Under the sun, under the sun
    Exactly, right underneath

We left Paris Orly under the heat, but it was unaware (or very little) only three hours away Heraklion was under the sun. It is understood that the wings of Icarus have melted. Here we are in Crete. I left this island long ago with lots of memories. Will I find them?

Just out of the plane and the car jack, we reached our hotel in a maze (the place) small streets. It was evening, but already we exchanged pants and sneakers against shorts and sandals to go to dinner beside the sea. Did not take us more than 10 minutes to be in the Greek atmosphere. For example park the car anywhere on the street already narrow.

And if we start with a sunset

    01 Héraklion

This morning after taking a very hearty breakfast, we set off in the city. Heraklion (very recent name) was occupied by the Arabs, Venetians (who called Candia) and Turks.

These are the Venetians who left the most visible traces: the port, some buildings and massive walls that still surround the city. Crete was considered an African head back to Europe or vice versa according to its terms. Heraklion has been the object of desire from the Greeks and all kinds of trafficking took place there including that of slaves.

Market Street "1866", there is always fish, snails merchant, vegetables and Greeks who dispute coffee. But the tables of spices (now everything is in bags) and the craftsmen who were doing you a custom pair of sandals in 10 minutes gone. Real shops have pushed instead of old shops. It's more modern and we must move forward but we lost it smells and colors. Probably soon a shopping arcade (see the passage of Havre in the Saint Lazare in Paris).

  •  02 Heraklion The Museum

The Museum of Heraklion is still under construction. In an appendix are presented the best-known parts of the Minoan civilization. The frescoes (largely reconstructed) of Knossos are in their final position and are free entry. The pieces I photographed are -3000 to -1500. Obviously the bull is multi represented.

It's always moving, objects that have been preserved to us. What do we find in our civilization where most anything is brought to last?

  •  03 Knossos, Gortyne, Kalamaki

We visited the site of Knossos. Where we talk about tourism pressure. Knossos is the visit that all tour operators are doing to their customers. Finally this great site is unique in that its discoverer had the idea of wanting to reconstitute the supposed palace of King Minos. For this concrete columns were painted in ocher, plastering walls were covered with frescoes facsimiles. This gives this visit fell park Asterix. After these sacrilegious words, I must say though that it helps to see how much better could this building.

Do Knossos was the palace of Minos? Is this the famous labyrinth where the Minotaur was locked? Is this place that is associated with all these incesto-zoophiles stories behind the mythology? We will never have the answer.

Passing Gortyne, we stopped to see some of this Roman site. We are less than ten visitors. Everything is much more recent than Knossos. Here are engraved on a wall in an ancient Greek the oldest known in the Mediterranean world laws. In the bottom of the site a sort of plane semper vivens. The belief is that offended by the scene that took place in its shadow the plane stopped to lose its leaves. In fact Zeus in the guise of a bull, here, would have designed the small Minos with Europe. The ubiquitous cicadas have since colonized the place.

The temperature rose well from Heraklion, since we are in the plain of Messara: it now reaches 35 ° C. Also a hot Kalamaki is welcome. The wind was blowing hard, but it barely cools the temperature. The sea is delicious. Too bad hidden underwater rocks make entry into the water a little complicated.
